Aspects for Toll Systems (ATOLL)

Partners

Research project between OBASCO group at Ecole des Mines Nantes and Siemens R&D, Munich.

Goal

Toll systems, as specific distributed client-server applications, are subject to crosscutting functionalities, especially adaptation requirements, which impede the modularization of its business functionalities, notably charge calculation and tariff updates.

Explicitly-distributed AOP is promising for the flexible modification of charge calculation and tariff updates preserving the non-functional requirements consistency, determinism and traceability. The overall goal of the present project is to evaluate this claim by examining the application of Aspects with Explicit Distribution (AWED), an AOP system for Java, and Arachne for C to charge calculation and tariff updates, studying suitable language mechanisms, and realizing a corresponding minimal prototype implementation.
